Artist Trading Cards

March 18, 2011

Artist Trading Cards is a new swap I recently entered, it’s such a lovely idea!! As their name indicates, ATC are collectables, a brilliant idea born of the older sports-themed trading cards. The one rule that makes an ATC derives from this: the

dimensions of the ATC must be 2.5″x3.5″, or 64x89mm.
On the back of each ATC the artist writes part or all of the following information: name, contact information, title of the ATC and number (1/8, 2/8…) if it’s part of an edition. By definition ATCs are made in limited numbers, often no more than one of a kind as each miniature artwork should stand on its own. Unique ATCs are called originals; sets of identical ATCs are called editions and are numbered; sets of ATCs that are based on one theme but that are different are called series. D

Common sense dictates that they should be sturdy enough to survive mailing, and of reasonable thickness (unless you specifically want them otherwise. Transparent card sleeves are useful to protect the cards if need be. This is particularly true if they can easily get smudged or if the medium might stick during transport.

As you can see above I have made three so far Martin Luther King, Gandhi and Susan B. Anthony, I found my inspiration in world history and decided to make a theme of it: heroes. I want to make ATCs of people who have meant a great deal to the world and who shaped the world the way it is today.

SWEATER DESIGN

January 4, 2011

When I finish the scoodie I’m knitting for a contest I will try to knit the design below.

It’s plain but it looks interesting enough :)

MITTENS ^^

December 26, 2010

I love mittens, I think they are way more practical than gloves… and they’re just funny :)

I succeeded into making some of my own designs.

I knitted these with white acrylic yarn and then dyed them because I did not have grey at hand.

When I finished knitting I found them rather plain so I decided to embroider something on it. Why ‘Love’? Well I was listening to the Beatles… I guess you could say I used their music as inspiration for the embroidered part ^^,

The purple, white and black striped mittens below I made for my friend as a Christmas present. She just has to wave to see some smiling happy faces, her and her waving will make the world a more colourful place to live in.

Below: I found these geeky but adorable mittens on the internet, I love ’em!

DIY TINY SANTA (knitting pattern)

December 9, 2010

This little guy measures around 8cm.

If you have problems following the pattern please let me know.

- If you wish to give the head a little colour dip it in warm tea and let it dry… as you can see my Santa’s also got a bit of colour on his cheeks I achieved this simply by colouring his cheeks with a pencil.
- There’s a button glued to his back and onto that button there’s a safety pin glued so I can wear it as a brooch.

- leave the pom pom out, try some different colours and you’ll have a gnome.

    MAKING UP
ARMS: Join row ends, turn right side out and stuff. sew open cast on edge to side of body, just below the neck.
Join row ends of each leg. gather round the cast on edges, pull up tightly and fasten off.
Turn right side out. stuff legs, body and head. do not close gap in head seam. To shape neck, usa a double strand of red yarn and gather around first knitted row of white head. Pull up tightly and secure. Sew yarn ends into neck.

BODY & HEAD: For eyes, use a single strand of black yarn , place the stitches where you want the eyes to be and stitch untill you have a nice round shape.

Sew on the beard just below the eyes but make sure to leave enough room to embroider a mouth (a single stitch) and the moustache (2 diagonal stitches). When face is completed, add more stuffing to hide the ends, then close the gap in the seam.

Sew on the hat. Make a tiny pom pom by winding your yarn around two knitting needles (I used no.4) place a piece of yarn in between the knitting needles and tie the yarn on it. Slip the loops off and cut the loops open, shape it and attach to top of hat.

Embroider the buckle by placing two horizontal and two vertical sts in bright yellow on the two black rows on its tummy.

    DIY RIBBON CHRISTMAS TREE CLIPPY

    November 24, 2010

I have to dress up for work for the holidays, normally we wear company working clothes. I do not have anything special in particular to wear and since a plain black jacket does not read Holidays I decided to make a hair clip to add some Christmas spirit.

    ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————

    HOW TO:

    Supplies:

    - red, green and brown ribbon

    - glue gun

    - clippy

    Time spent: 10 minutes

    STEP 1

Cut all pieces shown on picture.

    2 x 3,5cm for top layer
    2 x 4cm for middle layer
    2 x 4,5cm for bottom layer
    3 x 3,5cm for middle branches

The bow goes on top of top layer of the tree.

The brown ribbon will be the trunk of the tree.

    STEP 2

Glue ends of two same sized pieces of ribbon together.

    STEP 3

Working alternately, glue the other ends of the ribbon on top.

    STEP 4

Repeat 2 more times to create the other layers of the tree.

You should now have a total of six branches.

    STEP 5

Glue a piece of ribbon measuring 3,5cm between the brances, then glue the other end of that ribbon on top. Snip off excess at top. Repeat for all layers.

    STEP 6

Glue the bow on the top of the tree.

Begin at one end of the brown ribbon and glue the top of the tree on working your way down.

Fold the brown ribbon so that the trunk measures 0,5cm down from the bottom middle branch.

Put a bit of glue at the top on one piece of the folded ribbon and place the other part on top. Cut off excess.

Open the clip and brown ribbon and slide the clip on, glue it if necessary.
